The Roman Catholic parish church of Niedernondorf is located in the village of Niedernondorf in the municipality of Waldhausen in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Nicholas and is located in the Deanery Zwettl in the district above the Manhartsberg of the diocese of St. Pölten . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands on a hill in the south of the village of Niedernondorf opposite the castle .

history

The church was originally a medieval building. The church was officially elevated to a parish church in 1407. In the years 1674 to 1676 the church was rebuilt according to plans by Georg Wolff while retaining the early Gothic church tower . Until the 1970s, the church was always under the patronage of the respective lord of the castle at Niedernondorf Castle.

Church exterior

The core of the west tower of the church dates from the 14th century. The facade, the sound windows and the pyramidal helmet date from the years 1674 to 1676. The nave is short and the rectangular choir is in place. A sacristy annex adjoins the choir to the north . The north portal is baroque and has a blown gable. The north portal from 1675 was made by the stonemason Jakob Obermair .

Church interior

The nave of the church is zweijochig and random Hat barrel vaulted the on pilasters rests with vigorous projecting capitals. The organ loft has a flat arch. The choir has a groin vault .

Furnishing

The high altar was documented in 1675 created and set up by Hans Bair . It is a wooden column retable with candle arches on the side. It was marbled in later times. The altarpiece shows the scene of the Assumption . It's heavily painted over. The remarkable baroque side figures represent St. Nicholas and St. Paul . They were created by Jakob Stumberger . The oval top picture shows the Most Holy Trinity . The picture is flanked by the figures of Saints Michael and Raphael . The tabernacle was created in the middle of the 18th century.

There are also two neo-baroque side altars. The pulpit is from 1833. The two former altarpieces “The Beheading of St. John ” and St. Mary Magdalene date from the end of the 17th century. The Gothic Madonna statue was created around 1420 and restored in 1966. Today it is in safekeeping.

The organ was built by Benedikt Latzl in 1840 .

Peal

One bell was cast by Mathias Prininger in 1703 and another by Ferdinand Drackh in 1735 .
