A chapel was built northwest of today's church between 1614 and 1617 and consecrated to St. Fridolin in 1617. This chapel was enlarged in 1668 and consecrated again in 1674. In 1851 the nave was extended. In 1874, Ruggell became an independent parish through recovery from the parish of Bendern . The chapel was a simple functional building with a single nave and a retracted choir . This chapel was demolished in 1900 and 1901. Four wooden sculptures in this chapel, which were created around 1500, are now in the National Museum Zurich . In the years 1897 to 1902, today's parish church was built according to plans by Gustav Ritter von Neumann from Vienna and consecrated in 1911. 60% of the construction costs were borne by Prince Johann II . In 1962 a renovation took place. In the course of this, the decorative painting by Florus Scheel was removed from Feldkirch . In 1999 a new altar was consecrated and the church was expanded according to plans by the Vaduz architects Bargetze and Partners. The chancel was redesigned by Georg Malin .
architecture
The parish church of Ruggell is a neo-Gothic , single-nave vaulted church with an octagonal choir, which is easted . A church tower and a sacristy are added to the side. The church was supplemented by an extension at the end of the 1990s. In the course of this, the chancel was also redesigned.
Furnishing
The high altar from 1908 was created by Fidelis Rudhart from Altenstadt . The Sacred Heart Altar from 1925 was made by Anton Rebholz , also from Altenstadt. The Gothic winged altar in the baptistery is a gift from Prince Johann II, whose shrine figures were created around 1490. The wing and the predella , both of which were created around 1500, seem to come from three different altars.
organ
The organ is on the gallery above the entrance. It was built in 1968 and comes from the Walcker organ building workshop in Ludwigsburg . The instrument has 19 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal . In 2014 the organ was revised by the Felsberg company.
