The parish church of Wachsenberg in the municipality of Steuerberg , located on a hill that is visible from afar, is dedicated to St. Andrew . The church possibly goes back to a foundation of the Gurk painter Heinrich in 1226. The church was first mentioned as a parish in 1250.

Building description

The church is a Gothic building from the 15th century. The mighty west tower is essentially older, the pointed arched openings in the tower ground floor point to the 14th century. The tower with notches and round-arched baroque sound openings is crowned by a baroque onion helmet. Thomas Gollner cast one bell in 1846 and a second in 1853. Of the three windows on the south wall of the nave, one still has the original Gothic tracery , while Gothic tracery noses have been preserved on two of the choir windows. Under the southern sacristy there is an ossuary with a simple Gothic pointed barrel . The roofs of the church are covered with slate pans. The open vestibule on the tower ground floor was closed to the west with a beveled portal. The vestibule is paved with mulled stones and vaulted with a net star. You enter the church through a portal with round bars .

In the three-bay nave, a ribbed vault rises on polygonal pillars. A chamfered triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir, which has been raised two steps. A rib vault rests on consoles above the two-bay choir with a five-eighth closure . A pointed arched portal with an iron-studded door on the south wall of the choir leads to the groin-vaulted sacristy.

The mural with the Last Judgment above the triumphal arch dates from the first third of the 16th century. A mural of a Madonna from around 1500 was removed.
