The Roman Catholic parish church of Zell am Ziller is located in the middle of the municipality of Zell am Ziller in the Schwaz district in Tyrol . It is consecrated to St. Vitus and belongs to the dean's office in Zell am Ziller in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

The parish church is in the center of the village and is surrounded by a cemetery.

history

The original parish was first mentioned in a document in 1187. In 1304 the parish of Zell am Ziller appears in a document. The parish has been the seat of the dean's office in Zell am Ziller since 1674. From the church building completed in 1511, the steeple with pointed helmet is still preserved. From 1772 to 1778 the church was rebuilt by Andreas Hueber according to plans by Wolfgang Hagenauer .

The church is a baroque central building with a Gothic tower.

Church interior

The tower ground floor and at the same time the porch of the church is transversely rectangular. In this there is a fresco of the "Carrying of the Cross" from 1515. The main room is octagonal, above is a round dome with a lantern and deep niches. The choir is square. Above it is a flat dome. The apse is semicircular. The windows are arched and the skylights are curved. The walls are divided by double pilasters and decorated with rocaille stucco .

The dome fresco has a painted marble railing. It shows the worship of the Trinity by representatives of the Old and New Testaments . It was painted by Franz Anton Zeiller in 1779 and is one of the main works of this painter. Above the choir is a fresco showing the "Martyrdom of St. Vitus". The four church fathers and angels are shown in the octagon in the lantern.

Furnishing

The high altar is a baroque columnar altar. The altarpiece shows the "Glory of St. Vitus" and was painted by Franz Anton Zeiller in 1779. The altarpiece is flanked by figures of Saints Peter and Paul . These are attributed to Franz Xaver Nissl . The altarpiece of the Annen altar shows St. Anna and was painted by Franz Anton Zeiller. The figures of Saints Ursula and Barbara are also attributed to Franz Xaver Nissl. The altarpiece of the Magdalene Altar depicts St. Mary Magdalene , also by Franz Anton Zeiller. The flanking figures represent St. Dominic and St. Catherine . They are attributed to Abbot Peter II. Schmid von Wettingen . The altarpiece of the Antonius altar shows the saint of the same name in front of Mary with child. It comes from Franz Anton Zeiller. It is flanked by figures of Saints Leonhard and Antonius, which come from Abbot Peter II. Schmid. There is also a picture of Franz Anton Zeiller on the Sebastian altar. The flanking figures of Saints Florian and George date from around 1730/1740. On the altar of Mary there is a figure of St. Mary with child from around 1680. The figure is made up of statues of St. Anne and St. Joachim . The figures from around 1775 are attributed to Josef Götsch . On the Joseph altar is a picture of St. Joseph by Franz Anton Zeiller. The figures of Saints Michael and Catherine of Siena are attributed to Franz Xaver Nissl. Doe Kanzel was created by Andre Hueber in 1775. The crucifixion group with the painful Maria is attributed to Franz Serafikus Nissl and created around 1820. The octagonal font was built around 1500.
