history

In the period 1181-1214, the street village of duty village was first mentioned in a document. The village belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony- Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). In legal terms, duty village was assigned to the Altenburg District Court since 1879 and to the Meuselwitz District Court since 1906 .

At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, duty village became a mining settlement. From 1918 the place belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which in 1920 became part of the State of Thuringia . In 1922 he came to the Altenburg district . In 1923, at the same time as the neighboring towns of Heukendorf and Gröba, it was incorporated into Wintersdorf. With this, duty village came to the Altenburg district in the Leipzig district in 1952 . In 1990 the place was assigned to the district of Altenburg in the re-established Free State of Thuringia, which was added to the district of Altenburger Land in 1994. With the incorporation of Wintersdorf to Meuselwitz, Mandatory Village has been a part of the Wintersdorf district of the city of Meuselwitz since 2007.

Lignite mining

From the middle of the 19th century, the place was strongly influenced by lignite mining in the Meuselwitz-Rositzer lignite district , which turned it into a miners' settlement. In 1880 there were 42 houses, only two of which were farmhouses. In civil engineering , the lignite was found in the immediate vicinity of the town in the pits “Zum Progress No. 1” (1858–1949), “Mariengrube No. 101” (1872–1957), “Bruderzeche No. 111” (1872–1952) and “Katharinengrube No. 105 ”(1872–1878) dismantled. In the 1980s, the resumption of lignite mining was planned, but this was not carried out. The closely spaced localities of Heukendorf and mandatory village should have given way to the planned “open pit Meuselwitz” between Meuselwitz and Rositz.
