Neupoderschau is a district of Meuselwitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

location

Neupoderschau is located south of Meuselwitz on Landesstraße 1361 on the edge of the Leipzig lowland bay in the transition to the Altenburg-Zeitz loess hill country . Lignite mining and its pits as lakes shaped the landscape and agriculture. In the west Neupoderschau borders on Saxony-Anhalt.

history

The village was first mentioned on September 28, 1556. The community goes from 1718. A knight's seat on the 244-meter-high hill from Freiherr von Bachoff determined this date. Before this was in Altpoderschau . Neupoderschau, like Altpoderschau, belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century onwards was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony -Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Neupoderschau belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1879 the town was legally subordinate to the Altenburg District Court , and from 1906 to the Meuselwitz District Court . From 1918 on, Neupoderschau belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was opened up in the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the place was assigned to the district of Altenburg .

The farming village was already incorporated into Meuselwitz from 1922 to 1932. It then became independent again until it was merged with Altpoderschau on January 1, 1957, to form the municipality of Poderschau. After this was divided on January 1, 1973, Altpoderschau came to Kriebitzsch and Neupoderschau to Meuselwitz.

The village also became known through the family of IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad . His grandfather Erdmann Achim Kamprad was born on the Neupoderschau manor in 1865, where his family had lived for several generations. In 1896 he bought a forest estate in Elmtaryd in Småland, where the family emigrated.

Lignite mining

The Neupoderschau, located south of Meuselwitz, is in the west of the Meuselwitz-Altenburg lignite mining area . Underground pits were distributed around the entire local area. These were u. a. the "Gruben Vereinsglück Nr. 9 and 85" (1842-1928), the "Prehlitzgrube Nr. 135" (1867-1928), the "Ernstschacht Nr. 104" (1871-1952) and the "Kiefernschacht Nr. 103" ( 1872-1935). There was a briquette factory in the neighboring town of Altpoderschau . In the 1980s, the resumption of lignite mining was planned, but this was not carried out. The Neupoderschau location should have given way to the planned “Meuselwitz opencast mine” between Meuselwitz and Rositz.
