history

Location of Altpoderschau in the municipality of Kriebitzsch

It was first mentioned in a document in 1263. Altpoderschau belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Altpoderschau belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1879 the town was legally subordinate to the Altenburg District Court , and from 1906 to the Meuselwitz District Court . From 1918 on, Altpoderschau belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was opened up in Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the place was assigned to the district of Altenburg .

The Altpoderschau, located south of Meuselwitz, belongs to the Meuselwitz-Altenburg lignite district . In 1871 the "Ernstschacht" north of Altpoderschau, also known as "Grube 104", was registered with the mining authorities. A briquette factory was also built . The "Ernst" refining plant was in operation between 1905 and 1914. The Zechau opencast mine , opened as the Gertrud III opencast mine, was operated southeast of Altpoderschau between 1931 and 1959 . The neighboring town of Leesen fell victim to him in the early 1950s . After the carbonization, the renatured remaining Zechau hole was created there. The Ernstschacht was shut down in 1952.

During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus the place came with the district Altenburg to the district of Leipzig . On January 1, 1957, Altpoderschau and Neupoderschau formed the municipality of Poderschau, which was divided on January 1, 1973. While Altpoderschau came to Kriebitzsch, Neupoderschau was incorporated into Meuselwitz . In the 1980s, the resumption of lignite mining was planned, but this was not carried out. The entire municipality of Kriebitzsch, including the Altpoderschau site, should have given way to the planned “Meuselwitz opencast mine” between Meuselwitz and Rositz.

traffic

Altpoderschau is about two kilometers west of the B180.

The bus line 409 only stops three times a day in Altpoderschau on school days. One kilometer away, just before the entrance to Neupoderschau , is the stop "Abzweig Altpoderschau", which is usually served hourly by lines 352, 404 and 408.
