Bünauroda is a district of Meuselwitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

location

Bünauroda is located northeast of Meuselwitz on Landesstraße 1361 in the hilly Zeitzer-Schmöllner arable area with residual pits from mining and green erosion channels.

history

17th to 19th century

In 1656 the village was first mentioned in a document. Along with Neupoderschau (1718) and Kleinröda (1703), Bünauroda is one of the more recent establishments in the Altenburger Land . It was laid out by the landlord Heinrich von Bünau as a clearing settlement in the Prößdorfer Forest, which explains the name "Bünauroda". The place was parish after Proessdorf.

Bünauroda belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the Ernestine Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg when Bünauroda was founded. Between 1672 and 1826 Bünauroda and the Altenburg district office belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg . When the Ernestine Duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the newly founded Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg.

After the administrative reform in the duchy, Bünauroda belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). Judicially, the place was assigned to the Altenburg District Court since 1879 and to the Meuselwitz District Court since 1906 .

20th century to the present

Lignite mining began around 1900 around Bünauroda. This resulted in an expansion of the village in the 101-inhabitant town in the north of the Meuselwitz-Altenburger lignite mining area . South of the town opened in 1901, the underground mine "Eureka". It was in operation until 1924. Between 1900 and 1910 the briquette factory of the same name in Bünauroda processed the coal into briquettes. Since 1910, coal has also been mined in open-cast mining around Bünauroda . Initially, these were the smaller open-cast mines “Heureka” (1910 to 1924) in the southwest and “ Phönix -Bünauroda” (1920 to 1924) in the west. Since 1874 the Gaschwitz – Meuselwitz railway has passed Bünauroda . The place only got its own station in 1921 with the "Meuselwitz-Heurekagrube" stop. The foundry north of Bünauroda was given its own breakpoint in 1972, four years before the line section was closed.

From 1918 onwards, Bünauroda belonged politically to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which became part of the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the village became part of the Altenburg district . In 1928, lignite mining began in the "Phönix- Falkenhain opencast mine" in the north of Bünauroda and lasted until 1942. After the "Phönix-Ost" opencast mine east of Bünauroda and the Meuselwitz-Lucka road were opened in 1940, the place was surrounded on all sides by active or disused opencast mines. The Phoenix-Ost opencast mine was in operation until 1963.

On July 1, 1950, Bünauroda was incorporated into Meuselwitz. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Bünauroda came with the district Altenburg to the district of Leipzig . Since the re-establishment of the Free State of Thuringia in 1990, Bünauroda came back as a district of Meuselwitz. Since 1994 the place belongs to the district of Altenburger Land. 165 people currently live in the place. +
