history

Ortisei

Pfuhl was first mentioned in a document in 1244 and thus celebrated its 750th anniversary in 1994. However, around 2000, during restorations at the Protestant church of St. Ulrich, excavations were carried out and the remains of a church that are over 1000 years old were found there. Thus, Pfuhl and Gerlenhofen are among the oldest districts of Neu-Ulm . Pfuhl came to Reichenau Abbey under Charlemagne and on this way in the late Middle Ages to the imperial city of Ulm , until it finally fell to the Electorate of Bavaria together with Ulm in 1802. Ulm later became part of Württemberg, but Pfuhl remained - to this day - Bavarian.

Pfuhl had to face severe disasters like fires or floods again and again. So it had to withstand a heavy fire in the mid-1630s that reached the village with the Thirty Years War and almost completely destroyed it. In 1945 the western part of Pfuhl was completely destroyed by an Allied bombing raid.

However, in the course of the 20th century, Pfuhl developed into an independent community with a connection to the power grid, improved water supply, expansion of the sewerage system and even merging with Burlafingen and Steinheim.

On July 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Burlafingen was incorporated. Steinheim was added on January 1, 1976.

On June 1, 1977, however, Pfuhl lost its political independence in the course of the municipal reform and was incorporated into Neu-Ulm .

Culture

societies

Pfuhl has 21 clubs, including the TSV with currently 11 departments. Music is also very important: there is the Pfuhl e. V. and the Singverein 1853 Pfuhl e. V., which provide a musical accompaniment to all festivals throughout the year. Politics is represented in local associations of the CSU and the SPD.

Town twinning

Neu-Ulm is twinned with Trissino, a small town in Italy north of Vicenza. This friendship has been led by the Pfuhler for 40 years and, in 1990, resulted in an official town twinning. The fire brigade band contributes a lot to this partnership, as it has already made several trips to Trissino to visit the Coro Amici della Montagna, Trissino's music association, which has already made return visits.
