Finningen is a district and parish village of the district town of Neu-Ulm in the Bavarian-Swabian district of Neu-Ulm . The place has a little over 1200 inhabitants.

geography

The place is east of the city center of Neu-Ulm near the A7 federal motorway . Like all other districts of Neu-Ulm, Finningen lies at an altitude of around 470–490 m above sea level. NN . Neighboring Neu-Ulm districts are Schwaighofen, Burlafingen, Steinheim and Reutti. The municipality of Holzheim borders in the east . Finningen is located in the middle of the extensive landscape protection area "Pfuhler, Finninger and Bauernried", from which only the local locations have been excluded.

history

Finningen was first mentioned in March 1318. The settlement is probably much older, because the remains of a Roman watchtower from the fourth century have been found under the church of St. Mamas.
On July 1, 1975 Finningen lost its political independence in the course of the municipal reform and was incorporated into Neu-Ulm .

At the highest point of the village is located in a prominent location on the Kirchberg originally built in the 9th century but in the 12th century Romanized , in the 15th century with a bulging onion dome provided and at the beginning of the 18th century Baroque style Catholic Parish Church St. Moms . The main altar with two paintings (Saint Mum and the Coronation of the Virgin Mary ) dates from the years 1713-1716. At the end of the 18th century the church was extended by one yoke to the west.

The organ of St. Mammas Church comes from the organ workshop of the brothers Sandtner . The pneumatically operated instrument with an open whistle brochure was built in the 1950s as a parapet organ and only slightly changed during a renovation in 1998/1999. The organ has 14  registers , which are divided between two manuals and a pedal .

The oldest association in the town is the Finningen volunteer fire brigade , founded in May 1876 , which, however, was incorporated into the Neu-Ulm volunteer fire brigade when it was incorporated in 1975.

traffic

State road 2031 runs through Finningen and connects the town to Neu-Ulm in the west and the neighboring community of Holzheim in the east. To the south a road leads to Reutti, in the northeast a road to Steinheim. The A7 federal motorway runs east of the village, but cannot be reached directly from Finningen.

Finningen can be reached from the inner cities of Neu-Ulm and Ulm via bus lines 78 and 737 and night line 5a .
