With over 11,000 inhabitants, the parish village of Ludwigsfeld is the second largest district in the district town of Neu-Ulm in western Bavaria .

The place is conveniently located three kilometers south of the city center and on the Iller , about halfway to the neighboring town of Senden (on the Iller) , from which it is separated by the federal road 28 . Ludwigsfeld is bounded in the west by the border with Baden-Württemberg or Ulm and in the east by the Illertalbahn . The surrounding districts are in a clockwise direction in the north the places Weststadt and Stadtmitte, in the east the place Schwaighofen and in the south Gerlenhofen . Illerkirchberg and the Ulm district of Wiblingen border in the west . The residential and business district of Wiley , formerly the barracks of the US Army , has also been part of the Ludwigsfeld district in the municipal statistics since the 1990s.

The silhouette of the five skyscrapers from the 1960s and 1970s and the historic old school in the town center are striking for Ludwigsfeld. In the east, the place is bounded by the recreational area of the Ludwigsfelder Baggersee and is also given a high recreational value by the nearby alluvial forest of the Iller.

development

Like Neu-Ulm, Ludwigsfeld did not develop until the 19th century. It was developed as an urban building area in 1862 and named after the Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II . Today it is the preferred residential area between alluvial forests and the local recreation area around the quarry pond, which was created around 1975, with spacious lawns, playground and kiosk. The place also has a riding stable and the traffic training area, which connects to the outskirts. In Ludwigsfeld there are two kindergartens with a crèche, three churches and a Kingdom Hall , a large senior citizens' home , a primary school , two sports halls and a lively club.

With the incorporation of the former US barracks in the 1990s, Ludwigsfeld grew towards the city center. The urban development of the Wiley area began at the end of the 90s and has brought the district around 3500 additional residents to this day. The settlement of institutions such as the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences , the Ratiopharm Arena , the Dietrich-Theater multiplex cinema and numerous service companies also developed the newly developed area into a business district, so that Ludwigsfeld is not just a residential area today.

Ludwigsfeld will continue to grow in the coming years. In addition to the remaining parts of the Wiley area, the core town in the east is being expanded to include a new Ulmer Hofgut residential area , in which around 230 residential units are to be built in predominantly small-scale developments. In addition, the city is planning to expand the Ulmer Riedteile area west of the Wiley Süd residential area as a residential area at Illerpark . Starting in 2019, around 610 residential units are to be built on an area of around nine hectares, mostly multi-storey buildings for more than 1,400 people. In addition, a commercial campus is being built there, on which over 700 people will work from 2021. The gap between Wiley and the core town of Ludwigsfeld is not intended to be closed by this either, as this lane represents an area free for a possible expansion of the B10, for which there is currently no urgent need due to the expansion of the European route a little further north.

traffic

Ludwigsfeld is located on federal road 28 (the former A 80 ), which leads to the A 7 , on federal road 10 and directly on state road 2031, the former B 19 .

The Neu-Ulm – Kempten railway line runs on the edge of Ludwigsfeld, but due to the distance to the settlement area, it does not have a train station there.

The SWU bus line 5 connects Ludwigsfeld with the city center of Neu-Ulm and Ulm, the Ulm main train station and Eselsberg , on which, among other things, the science city of Ulm with the university , university clinic and army hospital are located. In addition, the bus routes 71 and 73 offer further connections within Neu-Ulm and the neighboring town of Senden; Ludwigsfeld is served by route 5b during night traffic.

Sports

The latitude and competitive sports club TSF Ludwigsfeld has its training center in Ludwig field and with about 1,900 members of the largest sports club of Neu-Ulm.

With the Dietrich-Lang sports center, the second largest club in Neu-Ulm , TSV 1880 Neu-Ulm , also has sports facilities in Ludwigsfeld.

The horse sports club PSV Ulm / Neu-Ulm is also located in Ludwigsfeld .

With the Sportpark Wiley there is also a large recreational sports area with a football and soccer field , a skate track and a beach volleyball field .
