Philip MacKinnon

Philip MacKinnon (born February 5, 1944 in Montreal ) is a former Canadian ambassador .

Life

Philip MacKinnon's son is Jamie (* 1976 in Tunis). Philip MacKinnon studied history and philosophy at Queen's University, University of Toronto and Oxford University. In June 1974 he joined the foreign service. From 1974 to 1974 he was employed in the local border traffic department . From 1975 to 1977 he was employed in Tunis . From 1977 to 1980 he was employed in the investment and competition law department. From 1980 to 1983 he was employed in Seoul . From 1983 to 1986 he was employed in the nuclear energy department . From 1986 to 1990 he was employed in Geneva . From 1990 to 1991 he headed the CSCE department. From 1991 to 1994 he headed the United Nations and Commonwealth of Nations division . From 1994 to 1998 he was employed in Vienna . From 1998 to 2001 he headed the Western Europe department . On August 20, 2001, he was appointed ambassador to Tehran , where he was posted until 2004. On July 18, 2004, he was recalled after an Iranian court dropped the Zahra Kazemi murder case . On May 19, 2004, he was appointed ambassador to Cairo , where he was posted until 2008. From 2011 to 2012 he was chargé d'affaires in Kabul.
