Philipp Herkenhoff (born June 29, 1999 in Mettingen ) is a German basketball player on the position of the winger. He measures 2.06 meters and is in the squad of the Bundesliga club SC Rasta Vechta .

career

Herkenhoff comes from Hagen am Teutoburg Forest and played in his youth for the local Hagen Huskies , later for the Osnabrücker SC and the Artland Dragons . With the Quakenbrückers he became German U16 champion in 2014 and runner-up a year later when Herkenhoff was named the best player in the final tournament. In the spring of 2015 he took part in the “Jordan Brand Classic International Camp” in Croatia, a training camp to which some of the most talented players in Europe of his age group were invited.

For the 2015/16 season he moved to SC Rasta Vechta . He got two short appearances in the ProA team of Lower Saxony, which were promoted to the Bundesliga that season, but played primarily in Vechta's second men's team in the 1st regional league. Herkenhoff was named the best newcomer in the Regionalliga Nord in the 2015/16 season by the internet service eurobasket.com . In the same year Herkenhoff was awarded the Roland Geggus Prize by the NBBL as the new league player of the year. On November 7, 2016, he made his Bundesliga debut in the game against Jena . In February 2017 he was invited to the “Basketball without Borders Camp” training camp in New Orleans to compete against talents from all over the world.

With Rasta, he rose to the first division as champion of the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2017/18 season . Herkenhoff was used in 39 games in the championship year and recorded an average of 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per encounter. In April 2019, Herkenhoff registered his name in the draft process of the North American NBA league , but withdrew the registration in June. With Rasta he reached the Bundesliga semi-finals in the 2018/19 season, Herkenhoff averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 39 Bundesliga appearances during the successful season.

National team

Herkenhoff was first appointed to a course for the U13 perspective squad in 2012. In 2015 he took part in the European Championships in Lithuania with the German U16 team. At the U18 European Championship in December 2016, he was used in all six tournament games and scored 1.7 points and rebounds per game on the way to fourth place.

At the 2017 U19 World Cup in Cairo , Herkenhoff scored an average of 6.4 points in seven games and came in fifth with the German team. In the same year he was the best thrower of the German national team at the U18 European Championship in Slovakia with 12 points per use (like Jonas Mattisseck ) . At the beginning of June 2018 he was appointed to the squad of the U20 national team.

Herkenhoff received his first appointment to the senior national team at the beginning of November 2018 from national coach Henrik Rödl for the two World Cup qualifiers in Greece (November 30, 2018 in Patras ) and against Estonia (December 3, 2018 in Ludwigsburg ).

In July 2019 he won the European Championship bronze medal with the U20 national team. With an average of 16 points per match, he was the best German scorer in the tournament. His 8.2 rebounds per game were also the team maximum.
