Philipp Hille

Johann Philipp Joseph Hille (born October 24, 1862 in Holzhausen ; † May 28, 1915 in Eslohe ) was a Catholic clergyman and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Philipp Hille was born the sixth child of the rent master and teacher Friedrich Hille and was the younger brother of the writer Peter Hille . He attended elementary school in Holzhausen, the Theodorianum grammar school in Paderborn , the academy in Eichstätt , the universities of Würzburg and Freiburg and the seminary in Paderborn. After he was ordained a priest in the Paderborn Cathedral on March 24, 1887, he was a cooperator at the parish church in Lippstadt (1887 and 1888), mission pastor in Schwalenberg (1888/89), first chaplain to St. Agnes in Hamm (1890-95) and Religion teacher at Hamm high school. From 1890 to 1895 President of the Catholic Journeyman's Association in Hamm and from March 14, 1895 he was Secretary General of the Catholic Workers' Associations , first in Berlin, then further in North and East Germany. He was also the founder of the Volksbureau of the Catholic workers 'associations in Berlin and the founder of the Catholic workers' home Leo-Hospiz in Berlin. He was also editor of the weekly newspaper Der Arbeiter, organ of Catholic workers' associations in North and East Germany . In 1893 he received his doctorate in Catholic theology from the University of Freiburg im Breisgau on the basis of the dissertation (previously awarded by the University of Würzburg) on the church doctrine of the evangelical councils with special consideration of their social significance and the examen rigorosum.

From 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency district of Aachen 3 Aachen-Stadt and the German Center Party . In autumn 1900 he became professor of moral theology and social science at the theological faculty in Paderborn and resigned his seat on the Reichstag on November 20, 1900.

As early as the summer of 1902 he lost his teaching license because of the inclusion of the social question in moral teaching. After that he was first vicar in Schalke and from 1904 in Witten . From 1906 he was pastor in Bausenhagen , from 1908 in Bosseborn , from 1909 in Corvey and from 1913 pastor in Eslohe, where he died of a stroke in 1915.
