Philipp Maschl

Philipp Maschl (born December 27, 1986 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , sports presenter and commentator at ORF .

life and career

Philipp Maschl graduated from BRG Krems Ringstraße in 2005 . Then he did his community service with the Samaritan Association of Traismauer .

After studying at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences , he moved to the University of Vienna , where he studied journalism and communication studies. In 2009 he did an internship at the private radio station Radio Arabella in Vienna , where he initially worked as a reporter and later also as a news anchor. In 2014 he switched to ORF, where he completed a two-year traineeship. Since August 2015, Maschl has been working in the ORF sports department as a reporter, commentator and moderator for various sports ( handball , football , equestrian sports , freestyle snowboarding , freestyle skiing ).

Maschl is regularly used at major events. He commented on the sports of archery , water polo and football at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , the sports journalist was the moderator of the award ceremony on ORF Sport + . At the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 he moderated the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the daily highlight programs on ORF. He was an interviewer and live reporter for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang . The Traismaurer was also the commentator on the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Paralympics .

Awards

In 2011 the journalist won the recognition award of the Lower Austrian Journalism Prize with a radio report on the topic "The nuclear disaster in Japan. Electricity surge for the energy debate - consequences for Lower Austria".

Together with Astrid Radner, Maschl won the 2015 “Familia 2014” journalism award in the online category with the “Mama, she needs you more” project.

Volunteering

The amateur soccer player is the president of FC Sportunion Traismauer, where Maschl continues to work as a player. In 2012 and 2014 he co-initiated the social day sports benefit project.
