Philipp Wilhelm von Grumbkow

Philipp Wilhelm von Grumbkow (* 23. June 1711 , † 21st September 1778 in Lupow ) was a Prussian Major General , Knight of the Order of St. John and Castle Sat to Lupow , Runow and Wangersky.

His parents were Philipp Otto von Grumbkow and his second wife Henriette Scholastika, née von Schlabrendorf .

Military career

Grumbkow was initially in the Saxon service for seven years and then switched to Sardinian services for two and a half years . In 1743 he changed to the infantry regiment "Ludwig Hessen-Darmstadt" as captain . In December 1743 he was then transferred to the "Lehwald" infantry regiment in Prussia. In August 1745 Grumbkow became a wing adjutant to Friedrich II. In this position he was promoted to major and in May 1747 to lieutenant colonel. In August 1753 he was appointed colonel and in May 1757 he was appointed major general.

During his time with Friedrich II, he enjoyed his special trust and was drawn in for special tasks. When Prince August Wilhelm of Prussia fell seriously ill in August 1748 , King Grumbkow sent to the prince to look after him. He was very grateful after his recovery and gave Grumbkow a riding horse. During the Second Silesian War and at the beginning of the Seven Years' War he was in command of a grenadier battalion. The battalion was formed from the grenadier companies of the regiments "Anhalt-Zerbst" and "Kalkstein" . He also led another battalion from the companies of the regiments "von Bevern" and "Marwitz" . It was particularly effective during the siege of Prague in 1744.

In 1757, after taking the Schweidnitz fortress , he was taken prisoner by Austria. After his release he was no longer used in the military. At the end of the war he was released and retired to his estates with a pension of 1000 thalers . He kept visiting Berlin until he died on September 21, 1778 in Lupow in Western Pomerania.

family

Grumbkow was married to Albertine von Gessler (* 1719). She was the daughter of Field Marshal General Friedrich Leopold von Gessler . The daughter Friederike († 1806) emerged from the marriage and married the Prussian lieutenant Carl Alexander von Podewils (1742–1778).
