Phosmet is a chemical compound from the group of carboximides and thiophosphoric acid esters .

Extraction and presentation

Phosmet can be obtained by reacting N-chloromethylphthalimide with dimethyldithiophosphoric acid. The former, in turn, can be produced by reacting phthalimide with formaldehyde and hydrogen chloride .

use

Phosmet is used as an active ingredient in crop protection products. It was first approved in the United States in 1966 as a broad-spectrum insecticide to control a wide variety of pests including weevils , cotton boll weevils , codling moths and moths . In addition, Phosmet has been approved for a direct treatment of ectoparasites in animals to control fleas, lice, ticks and others in cattle, pigs and dogs.

Admission

In 2007, the active ingredient Phosmet was approved as an insecticide and acaricide in the European Union. In Germany and Switzerland, no pesticides with this active ingredient are permitted. A preparation for use against Colorado potato beetle and pollen beetle is available in Austria .
