Phyllis Brooks (born Phyllis Seiler , born July 18, 1915 in Boise , Idaho , † August 1, 1995 in Cape Neddick , Maine ) was an American actress and model .

Career

Brooks began her career as a photo model, including for the toothpaste manufacturer Ipana , whose advertising made her known nationwide as Ipana Girl . She was also a model for James Montgomery Flagg and McClelland Barclay. She had her first film appearance in 1934 in One Exciting Adventure . Numerous other films followed, such as Charlie Chan in Honolulu , Shirley on Welle 303 , alongside Shirley Temple , or the female lead in Dangerously Yours alongside Cesar Romero . Despite being a popular star in the 1930s and 1940s, her career got stuck in B-movies . From 1936 she also appeared on Broadway , where she had great success in the plays Stage Door (1936-1937) and Panama Hattie (1940-1942). During World War II Brooks appeared for the United Service Organizations (USO). Her affair with movie star Cary Grant has been the subject of the rainbow press. In 1945 she married the future politician Torbert Macdonald and ended her career in the early 1950s in favor of family life.
