Picture the End was an Australian metalcore band from Melbourne that was formed in 2004 and split up in 2009.

history

The band was formed in 2004. The following year, a first demo appeared on Sightline Records , whereupon Darren Cherry of Stomp Records became aware of the band and signed them. The debut album They Swarmed Like Locusts was released in early 2007 . Later that year, Rob Allen stepped in for bassist Clint Patzel to perform with Job for a Cowboy . In November, Picture the End supported The Black Dahlia Murder and Cephalic Carnage in Melbourne , before embarking on a national tour with The Jonestown Syndicate. In 2008 guitarist Jon Green left the cast and joined The Red Shore . In the same year, the recordings for the second album began. In September the band played with Testament , in October with Carcass . In December the other guitarist Stu Callinan left the band. In early 2009 guitarists Cam Wilson and Drew Hilton were added as replacements. Then the band broke up. In their career, the band has also performed with Obituary , Darkest Hour , On Broken Wings , Throwdown , Comeback Kid , Parkway Drive , Carpathian , Her Nightmare and Miles Away , among others .

style

Brian Giffin wrote in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal that the band plays groove- oriented, modern and technically slightly demanding metalcore. In an interview with Justin Donnelly from themetalforge.com , Rob Taylor stated that the album used samples from films like Predator and Dark Angel . He himself described Picture the End as a metal band, with isolated metalcore and hardcore punk sounds. Privately, the members would hear a lot of hardcore punk, but the band is not part of the metalcore scene. Influences include Madball , Turmoil , Hatebreed , Pantera , Guns n 'Roses and Iron Maiden . Simon Milburn, also at themetalforge.com , wrote in his review of They Swarmed Like Locusts that the song Death, Wrath and Judgment is heavily influenced by riffs , breakdowns and a lack of structure. The following 8/24 Off 16 Overs can hardly be distinguished from the previous song and has chords in the style of Poison the Well . The following They've Got Their Magnums. I've got my magnums. We're Gonna Shoot This One Out does offer a few melodic passages, but they would get lost in generic Metalcore. The theme song and Let's Get Metal are memorable, well structured and dynamic, while in Fuel for the Underground there are traces of Death Metal . In The Executioner and For the Abbots he heard similarities to Unearth , before the album ended with the pointless but short, Your Face on the Dartboard .
