On Broken Wings is an American metalcore - band , the 2001 Boston , Massachusetts , was founded.

history

The band was formed in early 2001. In 2002 a first EP was released under the name Number One Beautiful . Thereupon the band reached a contract with Eulogy Recordings , about which 2003 the debut album Some Of Us May Never See the World was released in 2003. The band then consisted of singer Jonathan Blake, guitarists Mike McMillen and Burke Medeiros, bassist Jerome McBride and drummer Kevin Garvin. This line-up did not change on the following albums. In the summer of 2004 followed a tour together with Shattered Realm , The Judas Cradle , Black My Heart and The Warriors . After the second album It's All Just a Long Goodbye was released in June 2005 , it went on tour through the USA together with Reflux , From a Second Story Window and Ion Dissonance . Another US tour followed in June and July 2006 with Nights Like These , Black My Heart and Sworn Enemy . In April 2007 the band took a break to devote themselves to other projects and private life. However, the band went on tour again in 2008 together with Emmure , Recon , Ligeia and After the Burial . Further appearances followed in 2011 together with Bring Me the Horizon , Parkway Drive , Deez Nuts and Architects . In April 2012 the band played at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival . After the band had already released two new songs a few weeks earlier, they announced in mid-July 2012 that they were working on a new album called Summer Solstice . Towards the end of the year, the band went to guitarist Mike McMillen's Darkside Audio Studio in Taunton , Massachusetts to record the album, which was scheduled for release in spring 2013. However, it has still not been published.

style

According to Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia , the band has been influenced by post-hardcore , emo and metalcore groups like Every Time I Die , Glassjaw and Converge . You can also occasionally hear Grindcore influences. According to Armin Weber from Metal Hammer , the band plays music comparable to that of Today Is the Day and Closer Than Kin . There are no song structures in the songs, just as little as catchiness. The music is a mixture of death metal , doom metal , grindcore and hardcore punk . Singer Blake sounds like a "pig standing in front of the butcher, sometimes trilling angelically, only to gargle a moment later from the depths of his intestines". The Ballede The Spawning of Progression sounds like Barney Greenway is singing Nothing Else Matters . Anzo Sadoni from Metal Hammer described the music on Going Down as "Metalcore-Roar-Würfel-Schmonz" with sometimes used "Emo-Howl-Escapades". The band often use breakdowns .

Selma Teksoy from Ox-Fanzine described the music on It's All a Long Goodbye as extreme metalcore. The album mixes melodies from Every Time I Die with the chaos of Converge , with the vocals being dull and aggressive. In addition, a large amount of Death Metal can be heard in most of the songs. Playing the bass is creative, while the drums are catchy. There is also at least one breakdown in every song. In addition, the members would practice the straight edge lifestyle. Tobias Ernst from Ox-Fanzine thought that almost every song on Going Down sounds the same. Singer Blake changes in the songs "from deep growls to his singing voice [...] which is always a note off".
