Piergiuseppe Vacchelli

Piergiuseppe Vacchelli (born February 4, 1937 in Longardore di Sospiro , Province of Cremona , Italy ) is a retired Curia Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Vacchelli attended 1948-1961 Major Seminary of the Diocese of Cremona and was on 27 May in 1961 by the bishop of Cremona, Danio Bolognini , for priests ordained.

From the end of 1961 to 1963 he was pastor of the parish “San Giovanni in Croce”. In 1963 he went to Rome to study canon law and attended the Pontifical Gregorian University . He completed his studies with a licentiate and returned to his diocese in 1967 . In the same year he was appointed parish priest of the parish "San Pietro" in Cremona and at the same time spiritual director of the adult department of the Catholic Action of the diocese. From 1973 he was secretary to the Bishop of Cremona and from 1975 to 1986 he was chancellor of the diocese. From 1976 to 1990 he was spiritual director of the Catholic Action of the diocese. In 1986 he was appointed Pro- Vicar General of the Diocese and from 1990 to 1993 he was General Secretary of the Diocesan Synod. In 1993 he was appointed pastor and canon of Cremona Cathedral. He also taught canon law at the diocese's seminary and religion and literature at the "Istituto Religioso Figli del Sacro Cuore di Gesù". Since October 1996 he was Undersecretary of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) and chairman of the Episcopal Committee for Charitable Aid in the Third World.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him titular Archbishop of Minturnae on May 24, 2008 and appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies. On July 3 of the same, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB donated him the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Cardinal Ivan Dias , and the President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue , Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran . On January 5, 2011 Benedict XVI appointed him. as Consultor of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care .

On June 26, 2012, Benedict XVI. the request to resign from the office of Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, put forward by Piergiuseppe Vacchelli for reasons of age.
