Pierre Petit (cameraman)

Pierre Petit (born January 3, 1920 Fontenay-Trésigny , † September 22, 1997 in Rueil-Malmaison ) was a French cameraman .

Life

Petit began his professional career as a camera assistant at the age of 16½. During the Second World War he was also active as a simple cameraman. His teachers include his colleagues Léonce-Henri Burel , Eugen Schüfftan , Jean Bachelet , Joseph-Louis Mundwiller and André Dantan.

Shortly after the end of the war, Petit received his first orders as chief cameraman and in the next two and a half decades became one of the most sought-after representatives in his industry. The films that Petit photographed were almost entirely commercial, artistically insignificant entertainment productions for the general public. He photographed several historical dramas and gangster and adventure flicks, more rarely comedies. Petit's directors include Denys de La Patellière , Ralph Habib , Maurice Labro , Guy Lefranc, Pierre Billon and Georges Combret.

In the 1960s, several agent and espionage thrillers were added. Pierre Petit now also worked more frequently with the A-film director Christian-Jaque , for whom he photographed, for example, the extensive historical and costume film production Lady Hamilton - Between Shame and Love , and the screen star Jean Marais . During the early 1970s, Petit largely withdrew from the cinema and devoted himself to television.
