Place names were: Fontenetum im bria - Fontenaio - villa fonteneio - Fontenay en brie and Fontenay-Trésigny . The place name Trésigny appears only in the 18th century, after the title of Marquis de Trésigny was created. The name Fontenay-Trésigny was adopted after the revolution .

The place is on the river Breon . Neighboring municipalities are Chaumes-en-Brie , Bernay-Vilbert , Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux , Châtres and Marles-en-Brie .

  • First mentioned in the 12th century, Le Vivier Castle , an old hunting seat of the first Capetians , was restored by King Charles V. Charles VI stayed here during his mental attacks.
