Pieter Douma

Pieter Douma is a Dutch jazz bassist.

Douma played from 1975 as a self-taught bass guitarist in various rock bands. From 1981 he studied double bass at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Victor Kaihatu , later in Arnhem with Hank Haverhoek . From 1985 he played in the rock band Blowbeat , with whom he recorded several albums, as well as with Mike Kaneally and Jan Akkerman and with the blues musicians Dr. John and Guy Forsyth .

In the field of jazz he worked with Jerry Gonzalez , Dick de Graaf , Ernst Reijseger , Pierre Courbois , Louis van Dijk , Koos van der Sluis and Martin Fondse . In the early 1990s he taught at the Doettinchem Music School (1989–1994), the Codarts School of Art in Rotterdam (from 1990) and the Arnhem Conservatory (from 1993).

Between 1996 and 1998 he performed in a duo with René Creemers , with whom he recorded the album Paradox , and since 2000 with the singer-songwriter Marcel van de Beeten . Since 2006 he has been a member of Michiel Braams Wurli Trio , a group for contemporary improvisation music. In the same year he founded the group Bachelor Beats with Hans Hasebos .

He gives master classes, workshops and solo concerts in the Netherlands and Germany. a. at European Jazz Days 2002 and 2004.
