Wolfgang Pintzka
Wolfgang Michael Pintzka (born October 7, 1928 in Zwickau , Saxony , German Empire ; † July 23, 2006 in Oslo , Norway ) was a German theater director. He worked with Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel in the Berliner Ensemble and was considered a leading interpreter of Brecht.
Life
His grandfather was a Hungarian Jew . As a student at the Zwickau State High School, Wolfgang Pintzka belonged to the Hitler Youth and was drafted into the Volkssturm in Rittersgrün in the last days of the war in 1945 . After World War II he spent five years in a penal labor camp in Siberia on charges of " werewolf " . After 1950 he made up his Abitur and studied at the theater institute Weimar / Leipzig . As an employee and assistant director at the Berliner Ensemble , he became a student of Erich Engel and a close collaborator of Helene Weigel . From 1963 to 1967 he was director of the Gera Theater . From 1966 he took over directing work at theaters in Finland , Iceland and Norway as well as lectureships at theater institutes. Since 1984 he lived in Norway, where he also started a family. At the age of 60 he formally converted to Judaism .
In his memories from two worlds, Pintzka u. a. his way back to the Jewish roots of his grandparents' family from Berlin's Oranienburger Strasse .
Pintzka died of cancer on July 23, 2006 in Oslo.
