Pinudjem I , was during the 21st Dynasty ( Third Intermediate Period ) around 1070-1055 BC. Chr. High Priest of Amon in Thebes and about 1070, as well as of 1054 to 1032 v. King of Upper Egypt under the rule of Smendes I , Amenemnesut and Psusennes I.
Pinudjem I was the son of the high priest Pianch and the Hereret and was the successor of his brother-in-law Herihor high priest of Thebes. When Smendes in 1069 BC Chr. Pharaoh was, he reached the recognition of its sphere of influence through him, in return, he acknowledged his kingship. Since then he has been attested as the military commander-in-chief and governor of Upper Egypt from the fortress el-Hibeh to the island of Sehel near Aswan .
In 1054 BC His son Masaharta took over the office of high priest of Amun, while Pinudjem I regarded himself as king (according to KA Kitchen ), whereas according to another doctrine (Jansen-Winkeln) he had already done so since 1070 BC. Did.
