Pianch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pianch or Pi'anch was an ancient Egyptian general and high priest of Amun in Thebes around 1087-1075 BC. During the late 20th to the beginning of the 21st Dynasty ( Third Intermediate Period ).

origin

About its origin is not known, it is first reported by him, as the Nubian viceroy Panehsi in Upper Egypt invaded and there the fortress Medinet Habu conquered. The high priest Amenophis there asked the Pharaoh Ramses XI. for assistance and he sent General Pianch, who was finally able to defeat and drive Panehsi after the war had spread to Lower Egypt and the city of Kynopolis was destroyed.

Offices

Pianch then took over the offices of Panehsi and was in fact the ruler in the south of the country. Nothing is known about his further actions during his reign.

family

Pianch was married to Hereret, their son was the future Pinudjem I. After his death his son-in-law Herihor took over the rule.
