The Pioneer Brigade 10 was one of the pioneer brigades of the Army of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters were the barracks Auf der Freiheit in Schleswig . The engineer brigade was subordinate to the military area command I / 6th Panzer Grenadier Division .

history

Lineup

After the end of the East-West conflict , the structure of the pioneer troops was changed to take up Army Structure V and V (N). A large part of the pioneer troops of the field and territorial army was previously divided into pioneer commands. The German Corps led a corps troops ever a pioneer squad. Similarly, the territorial commands either led a pioneer command directly subordinate to it or, in the case of the Schleswig-Holstein territorial command, a pioneer regiment of comparable size. At the level of most of the divisions, engineer battalions were planned as part of the division forces; in the territorial army, each military area command led a pioneer regiment.

In the new structure, the bulk of the above-listed units of the pioneers of the field and territorial army - insofar as these were not decommissioned - were combined in newly established pioneer brigades . The pioneer brigades were each subordinate to a staff of a military area command / division . These merged large formations of a new type combined units and tasks of the previous field and territorial army. Only in the event of a defense would the associations probably have been separated again. The same applied to the engineer brigades.

The Pioneer Brigade 10 was set up on April 1, 1993 in the barracks Auf der Freiheit in Schleswig and was subordinated to the I / 6th Panzer Grenadier Division , which was merged around the same time .

resolution

At about the same time as the defusion of Defense Area Command I and the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division and the subsequent decommissioning of the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division, Engineer Brigade 10 was decommissioned on June 30, 1997.

Association badge

Unlike most other brigades in the army, the engineer brigade did not have its own badge . The soldiers therefore wore the association badge of the superior military area command or the superior division .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire pioneer brigade. Similar to the coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein and similar to the coat of arms of the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division, it showed the Schleswig lions and the Holstein nettle leaf . The stylized bridge in the black weapon color of the pioneer troop is shown in a similar way in the troop's beret badge . It appears similarly in the other internal badges of the staffs and staff companies of the other pioneer brigades.
