history

Lineup

After the end of the East-West conflict , the structure of the pioneer troops was changed to take up Army Structure V and V (N). A large part of the pioneer troops of the field and territorial army in West Germany was previously divided into pioneer commands. The West German Corps led a corps troops ever a pioneer squad. Similarly, the West German territorial commands either led a directly subordinate pioneer command or, in the case of the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command, a pioneer regiment of comparable size. In West Germany, engineer battalions were planned as part of the division troops at the level of most divisions ; in the West German territorial army, each military area command led a pioneer regiment.

In the new structure, the bulk of the above-listed units of the pioneers of the field and territorial army - insofar as these were not decommissioned - were combined in newly established pioneer brigades . The pioneer brigades were each subordinate to a staff of a military area command / division . These merged large formations of a new type combined units and tasks of the previous field and territorial army. Only in the event of a defense would the associations probably have been separated again. The same applied to the engineer brigades. In the course of the takeover of East German troops by the Bundeswehr and the reorganization of East German troops, this new structure was implemented more consistently and earlier: the newly established East German Corps and the newly established Territorial Command were managed from a merged staff from the start. Similarly, the new East German divisions and military area commands were consistently set up as merged large units . Therefore, the two East German Pioneer Brigades 70 and 80 were planned earlier than the West German Pioneer Brigades.

The Pioneer Brigade 80 was set up on April 19, 1991 in the Kurmark barracks in Storkow and subordinated to Division / Wehrbereichskommando VIII , which was set up around the same time . From 1995 onwards, this large unit was called Wehrbereichskommando VIII / 14th Panzer Grenadier Division . On September 17, 1993, the Brigade was given the nickname " Kurmark " by the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr . After the defusion of Military Area Command VIII / 14th Panzer Grenadier Division and the decommissioning of Military Area Command VIII soon afterwards, the Engineer Brigade was part of the now independent 14th Panzer Grenadier Division.

resolution

The engineer brigade 80 was decommissioned on September 30, 2003 as one of the last engineer brigades.

Association badge

Unlike most other brigades in the army, the engineer brigade did not have its own badge . The soldiers therefore last wore the association badge of the higher division .

As a "badge", the internal association badge of the staff and the staff company " pars pro toto " was sometimes used imprecisely for the entire pioneer brigade. In keeping with the nickname “ Kurmark ”, it showed the Märkischer Adler similar to that in the coat of arms of Brandenburg and a stylized bridge , which is similarly depicted in the beret badge of the pioneer troop. The bridge appears similarly in the other internal badges of the staffs and the staff companies of the other pioneer brigades. The black base color of the bridge corresponds to the weapon color of the engineers.
