action

Jack Severino lost his memory after being shot through his head. The only thing he can remember is Marianne. He assumes he loved her but she died in the hail of bullets. The memory of her keeps him alive. Manolo, his only friend, takes care of him and has also been his manager since he discovered Jack's talent in the boxing ring. He lets Jack compete in bloody competitions for gang boss Veneno. Jack leads a humble life and donates large amounts of money to the Church. Now and then he sees a saint before his eyes with whom he talks.

When Veneno tries to convince Manolo that Jack will lose his next fight, the two face the gang boss. When they see the poor, good citizens who have put all their savings on Jack, Jack strikes back and defeats his opponent. The two disappear and in the hubbub, Jack suddenly sees Marianne. Together they go to a shelter and there Jack learns the whole truth: Marianne and he had no relationship at all. Marianne and Harry worked for a charity and wanted to bring medicines to the guerrillas fighting Veneno. Jack was an ice cold professional killer who killed anyone for little money. Since the gangsters assumed that Marianne would smuggle weapons, they had hired Jack to lure the transport into an ambush. In the subsequent firefight, in which the guerrillas also intervened, Jack and Marianne were seriously injured. Marianne lost an eye, but survived and was able to escape. The saint who kept coming back to Jack was one of his previous victims.

Jack decides to give Marianne enough time to reach the safe limit. Manolo is the first to be killed by the gangsters. Then Jack strikes back, kills Veneno and can give Marianne enough time. Then he dies in a hail of bullets.

background

Pit Fighter is Jesse V. Johnson's third directorial work after the short film Death Row: The Tournament and Pit Fighter 2 - The Beginning . The latter appeared in Germany only after Pit Fighter . Hence the non-chronological naming. Apart from that, it has nothing to do with Pit Fighter . Jesse V. Johnson actually works as a stunt coordinator and stuntman , including Terminator 3 - Rebellion of the Machines and War of the Worlds .

The film is a low budget production . The budget for the film was just half a million US dollars and it took two weeks to shoot. The fight scenes were choreographed by Stephen Quadros , brought to the set by leading actor Dominiquie Vandenberg .

criticism

The very tough action film received mixed reviews. Above all, the first 2/3 of the film was praised, which, due to the non-chronological sequence of events and some dialogue scenes, would stand out from the mass of such combat films. In addition, the action scenes are well choreographed. On the other hand, the final fight was unanimously perceived as annoying, as the shooting in the end would be too reminiscent of comparable B-films .

“Only superficially striving for depth, which tries to make itself staging interesting with several flashbacks, but only fulfills the genre rules. The rather brutal action film wants to advance the plot through considerable use of firearms and a number of Tarantino bonds. "
