Hermann Peter Piwitt

Hermann Peter Piwitt (born January 28, 1935 in Wohldorf near Hamburg ) is a German writer.

Life

Hermann Peter Piwitt - son of a civil servant - grew up in Frankfurt am Main . After graduating from high school , he studied sociology , philosophy and literature at the universities in Frankfurt am Main , Munich and Berlin . The academic teachers Theodor W. Adorno and Walter Höllerer exerted a strong influence on him. In Frankfurt, Piwitt was one of the friends of the photographer Abisag Tüllmann .

In 1967 and 1968 Piwitt worked as an editor at Rowohlt Verlag in Reinbek near Hamburg; 1968 began his collaboration on the magazine concretely . Since 1969 he has lived in Hamburg as a freelance writer, whose essays have also appeared in magazines such as Akzente und Sprache im Technischen Zeit . Piwitt, who is a member of the PEN Center Germany , received the Literature Promotion Prize for the Berlin Art Prize in 1968 and a Villa Massimo scholarship in 1971/72 . In 1973 he became "Writer in residence" at the University of Warwick in England and held this position until 1974. In 1976 he was given a teaching position at the University of Bremen . In 1999 he was Writer in Residence at the University of Wales in Swansea .

The social critic Hermann Peter Piwitt has emerged with essays on political topics; his narrative works illuminate above all the conditions in the Federal Republic of Germany and in Italy .
