Plymouth GTX
The Plymouth GTX is a muscle car produced by the US automobile manufacturer Plymouth from 1966 to 1974 based on the mid-range models Plymouth Belvedere and from 1971 Plymouth Satellite .
Plymouth Belvedere GTX (1967)
In the 1967 model year, the factory offered a sports version of the Belvedere under the name Belvedere GTX, the scoops on the bonnet, a chrome-plated "racing" fuel tank cap, decorative stripes, sports suspension, reinforced gearbox and a standard 7.2- Liter V8 owned (designation 440 Super Commando). The well-known seven-liter Hemi-V8, officially 425 hp, could be ordered for a surcharge. A hardtop coupe and a convertible were offered at prices starting at $ 3,178; the Hemi was just under $ 700 extra.
Plymouth GTX (1968-1970)
For the 1968 model year, the Belvedere was completely redesigned and the muscle car was now simply called the Plymouth GTX . In addition, there was the Plymouth Road Runner, an affordable version for less than US $ 3,000.
In 1969 only minor cosmetic changes were made to the GTX, in 1970 the convertible was discontinued and in addition to the two well-known engines, a variant of the 7.2 liter with three double carburetors, called a 390 SAE-PS “440 six-pack”, was added to the range.
Plymouth GTX (1971-1974)
In late 1970, the Belvedere was replaced by the Plymouth Satellite. Logically, the GTX was now based on the new model - but only for one year. The coupé body was completely new, and technically everything remained the same. The 7.2-liter in two power levels and the seven-liter Hemi-V8 were still available.
Due to the sharp drop in sales, the GTX was taken out of the range as an independent model in autumn 1971; in the model years 1972 to 1974 there was a GTX package for the continued Plymouth Road Runner.
