The Plymouth Sapporo was a 1977 sold in the US to 1983 notchback - coupe with rear wheel drive and a version of the Mitsubishi Galant Lambda ; the identical parallel model offered by Dodge was called Dodge Challenger .

The Mitsubishi Sapporo was marketed in North America under the brand names Plymouth and Dodge, as Mitsubishi did not export cars there on its own at that time and was connected with the Chrysler group.

The Sapporo appeared in October 1977 in an equipment variant, powered by Mitsubishi four-cylinder engines with balancer shafts of 1.6 or 2.6 liters displacement. The series was a five-speed manual transmission, a three-speed automatic was available for an extra charge.

In 1980 the smaller four-cylinder was discontinued and the 2.6-liter engine remained unchanged.

For the 1981 model year, the Sapporo underwent a slight facelift , in the course of which the previous chrome jewelry largely disappeared and the rear was designed a little higher.

Exact sales figures are not known; Plymouth sold around 36,800 copies of the Sapporo from 1977 to 1980, while Sapporo and Challenger sold around 158,000 copies in six years.
