The Plymouth Model Q (or Chrysler Plymouth ) was a mid- size car, the first car that Chrysler presented under the brand name Plymouth . It was only offered in model year 1928 and was a particularly affordable car with which Walter P. Chrysler took up the price war in the Ford Model T market segment . The cheapest version of the Roadster Coupé was available for only US $ 670.

At the same time, the Plymouth brand rounded off Chrysler's range downwards. The gap in the market between Plymouth and Chrysler was closed in 1928 with the purchase of Dodge and the establishment of DeSoto , whose vehicles were at the dealership in 1929.

The car was presented on July 7, 1928 in Madison Square Garden in New York City , with the famous aviator Amelia Earhart driving the first car in the parade. The car had a side-controlled four-cylinder in-line engine with 2791 cm³, which delivered an output of 45 bhp (33 kW) and was the only four-cylinder engine in the group based on a design by Chrysler's predecessor Maxwell-Chalmers . The rear wheels were driven via a single-disc dry clutch and a three-speed gearbox with center shift. All four wheels were braked hydraulically. The superstructures customary at the time were offered with two and four doors. There was a choice of four-door touring cars, two- and four-door sedans, as well as two-door coupés and roadster coupés.

When the model was replaced by the U model in February 1929 , 66,097 copies had been made.
