The Plymouth Cranbrook was a large passenger car that Chrysler manufactured under the brand name Plymouth from 1951 to 1953 model years. The previous model, the Plymouth Deluxe , was replaced by three new vehicles for the new model year. The Cranbrook was the most luxurious model in the range, above Concord and Cambridge .
Technically, these three were almost identical to the predecessor, the biggest differences were a new front section and a new dashboard . The Cranbrook was offered as a sedan with four doors, a coupé with two doors, a convertible and a hardtop called the Cranbrook Belvedere , a coupe without a B-pillar . The only drive option was Chrysler's flat-head engine with six cylinders and a displacement of 3.6 liters.
For 1953, Plymouth's entire range of models was revised. Contrary to the taste of the times, the cars were a bit shorter and lower, with a one-piece windshield . With less chrome jewelry and a box-like look, Plymouth was known as "Plain Jane" at that time. Plymouth was also the only major manufacturer that did not yet offer power steering .
From 1953 the Cranbrook was now also available as a station wagon . The better equipped Savoy switched from the discontinued Plymouth Concord to the Cranbrook series and was now called Cranbrook Savoy . 1954 marked the end of the series, the Cranbrook was replaced by the Belvedere .
