Pochonia
Bat. & Fonseca

Pochonia is a genus of sac fungus from the ergot family. It is described as the anamorph of the genus Metacordyceps . Eight or nine species belong to the genus. Formerly in the genus Verticillium , the species are known as pathogens for nematodes and are soldcommerciallyas biopesticides .

features

All kinds of Pochonia infected cysts of nematodes . They all form so-called dictyo chlamydospores or at least irregularly swollen hyphae . The colonies are fast growing and reach a diameter of 15 to 40 millimeters in 10 days. The conidia carriers are usually erect (prostrate) and differ only slightly from the vegetative hyphae. The conidiogenic cells are phialid , that is, upright and prickly (aculeate), are arranged individually or whorled. The conidia stick together on spherical heads or chains. They are almost spherical, elliptical or rod-shaped, also evenly polyhedral or sickle-shaped with blunt ends. The dictyochlamydospores are formed on the surface of the colony or submerged in agar , they are multicellular, thick-walled and usually on short stalks.

Taxonomy

The type species is Pochonia humicola Bat. & OM Fonseca 1965.
