Coat of arms of those of Pogrell

Pogrell (also Pogrel or Pogarell , from Pogarell, Polish z Pogorzeli, z Pogorely, z Pogorella , Czech Pohořelá, z Pohořelé, z Pohořelce ) is the name of an old Silesian noble family . The Lords of Pogrell belonged to the old Silesian gentry class. Branches of the family still exist today.

history

The lineage of the family begins with Thomas comes de Kopanica (Kopnitz bei Bomst ) auf Popino (German-Poppen bei Schmiegel), who died around 1180. His son Grzymislaw founded the Polish family Grzymała with the same coat of arms. By his sons, Jaroslaw , the Truchsessen and Predslaw , the gift of Duke Heinrich I of Breslau (documented in 1203), the Kamenz monastery was founded on their castle there before 1210 . Bogussius dictus de Pogarell , son of Predslai de Michelow , first recorded the current name in 1276 after the village of Pogarell near Brieg .

Another documented representative of the sex appeared in 1290, Wenzlaw von Pogrell, as councilor of Duke Boleslaus III. from Schweidnitz-Jauer . Later, too, important members of the family emerged, who gained great influence in both ecclesiastical and secular offices.

Preczlaw von Pogarell (1299–1376) was elected Bishop of Breslau in 1341 and was Vice Chancellor under Emperor Charles IV . In 1355 he was given precedence over all princes of Silesia and called himself Prince von Neisse , Duke von Grottkau . Another Prezislaus Pogrell appears in 1369 as Burgrave of Freudenberg . Sigmund von Pogrell , who lived in the first half of the 15th century, was governor of the Duchy of Schweidnitz-Jauer. In 1590 Christoph von Pogarell and Michelau was the state elder in the Duchy of Brieg .

The property has been steadily expanded over time. Already in 1277 Michelau near Brieg , 1341 Habendorf , 1417 Taschenberg and 1480 Kleutsch near Frankenstein was owned or partially owned by the family. Other possessions were among others Lorenzdorf, Binzerau, Kapotschütz, Krakowane, Lampersdorf and Kutscheborwitz. In 1782 only the Kutscheborwitz estate near Wohlau was family-owned.

Johann Kaspar von Pogrell and Kutscheborwitz , Lord of Binzerau, ducal-Saxon secret council and imperial court councilor was appointed by Emperor Karl VI in 1731 . raised to the imperial baron status. On June 17, 1744, he received the title of Imperial Count from Emperor Charles VII .

coat of arms

The family coat of arms shows a red castle in silver with three tin towers, the middle one overhanging, with a window opening and an open gate with portcullis between the right black and left golden gate wing. Natural peacock tails growing from a golden shaft on top of the helmet with red and silver covers (the castle without a gate, the middle tower with a natural peacock tail as a crest ornament at times).

The Reichsgrafendiplom from June 17, 1744 shows a coat of arms improvement with two more helmets. The first with a Silesian ducal hat , the second the trunk helmet and the third with a gold-reinforced silver double-headed eagle body, wearing a count's crown around his neck.
