The Port de la Bonaigua ( Aranese Pòrt dera Bonaigua , Spanish Puerto de la Bonaigua ) is a 2072 m high mountain pass in the Spanish Pyrenees . It is located in the autonomous community of Catalonia and connects the Comarques Pallars Sobirà and Vall d'Aran .
The Port de la Bonaigua is located on the main European watershed . While the Vall d'Aran drains over the Garonne ( Aranese Garona ) to the Atlantic , the eastern valley with the Noguera Pallaresa belongs to the catchment area of the Ebro and thus the Mediterranean .
Although the pass is generally open in winter, the high altitude and the fact that the saddle is a gateway for the Atlantic low pressure areas on the south side of the Pyrenees often means that bad weather often prevails at the pass and the pass is closed for several days got to.
From Esterri d 'Aneu , a road with a length of 23 kilometers and an average gradient of 4.9 percent leads to the top of the pass. On the other side of Vielha there is another 23-kilometer route with a 4.8 percent gradient.
Twice was the pass of the Tour de France : 1974 was Domingo Perurena first on the pass, 1993 the Swiss Tony Rominger . In 2008 , the 8th stage of the Vuelta a España led over the pass, with David Moncoutié being the first to cross the pass.
