Possendorf is a district of the independent city of Weimar in Thuringia .
The district to the south of the city center covers an area of 4.67 km² and has around 200 inhabitants. The district mayor is Kärsti Ewald. The place is south directly on the A4 , east of the motorway exit "Weimar".
history
Possendorf was first mentioned in 1194 as Busendorf .
The oldest building in Possendorf is the village church , the oldest parts of which date from 1281. Wall paintings from the Renaissance period have recently been exposed. The church also served as a motif by Lyonel Feininger and is located on the Feininger cycle path .
A find from 1859 in the peat pit south of the village on the property of the master baker Voigtritter is historically interesting. Around a large, heavily worn, often repaired copper kettle stood seven vessels and an 80 cm high figure made of oak, which was interpreted as a figure of a god. She was standing upright and had inserted arms. The figure is missing. The finds are assigned to the Latène period to the earlier Imperial period . As part of a district reform in 1994, the former district of Weimar became the municipality of Possendorf and became part of the independent city of Weimar. In 2006/2007 Possendorf was connected to the public sewage network.
