Posterholt ( Limburgish Postert ) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg .

The village, located around ten kilometers south-east of the city of Roermond in the Rurn lowlands on the border with Germany, is the second largest district of the municipality of Roerdalen with 4,055 residents .

history

Geradts-Regout funerary chapel

The first written mention of Posterholt comes from a file from 1147.

The formerly independent municipality of Posterholt merged with the localities of Montfort and Sint Odiliënberg in the municipality restructuring in 1991, and on February 1, 1994 the municipality changed its name from Posterholt to Ambt Montfort . In the course of a further municipal reorganization, the “Ambt Montfort” was added to the municipality of Roerdalen in 2007.

Attractions

In Posterholt there are two buildings classified as Rijksmonument based on designs by the architect Pierre Cuypers , the Aerwinkel Castle and the Geradts-Regout funerary chapel.

Population development

The official statistics recorded a total of 4,055 inhabitants in 2018. Of these, 3,560 lived in the village itself and 215 in the area.
