Powfu (born March 31, 1999 in Vancouver ; real name Isaiah Faber ) is a Canadian musician and rapper from Mission in British Columbia . In 2020 he had an international hit called Death Bed .
biography
Isaiah Faber is the son of Dave Faber from the pop-punk band Faber Drive . As a result, he was confronted with music very early, but it wasn't until he was 17 that he started writing songs himself. In 2018 he published his music for the first time under the name Powfu. He started a series of EPs called Some Boring Love Stories with melancholy, piano-accompanied, lo-fi, hip-hop songs. For the second EP he took a beat with a sample from the song Coffee British singer Beabadoobee in 2017 and made it his play Death Bed (English for deathbed ). After it was published on SoundCloud in February 2019, it was adopted by the YouTube channel Promoted Sounds . A challenge at Tik Tok made the song very popular. Almost a million response videos with confessions of love, backed up with the music, were created afterwards and also drove up the views on SoundCloud and YouTube. Many other posts, including farewell messages on the death of Kobe Bryant in January 2020, also used the song. Due to the lack of rights to the sample, Powfu could not officially release the song, so he looked for a label. Columbia signed him and after the release of Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head) as a commercial single in February 2020, the song quickly hit the charts worldwide. In Canada it reached the top 10, in the UK charts at number 4 and achieved gold status in each case . In Malaysia and Singapore it was even a number one hit. In many other countries it was placed in the top 20 and in the US it went platinum.
