action

The film tells, in non-chronological order, the story of an explosive job for the Wilee bicycle courier in New York City . Wilee drives death-defyingly with a single wheel without brakes. His colleague and former girlfriend Vanessa thinks he is suicidal.

Wilee is supposed to deliver an envelope in Chinatown for the Tibetan Nima, with whom Vanessa has previously lived . At the same time, Bobby Monday, a corrupt and gambling-addicted police officer, is looking for the envelope for which he is supposed to receive debt relief from his gambling debts. Both clash, with the policeman trying to take his cargo from the bicycle courier first through ruse and later through violence. At the same time, a bicycle policeman chases after the courier for violating traffic rules.

Annoyed by the difficulty of the job, Wilee returns the envelope. A rival colleague takes on the assignment. It turns out that it is a Hawala is -Geldtransaktion which is to ensure that Nima child can enter the United States. Wilee and Vanessa hurry after their colleague, have an accident and lose Wilee's bike, in the handlebar of which he previously hidden the ticket, but at the end of the day they can turn off Monday with the help of a flash mob from other bicycle couriers and deliver the envelope on time. The money transaction is carried out, the child can leave China. Monday is shot dead by one of the Chinese.

Special effects

In dangerous scenes, e.g. B. in oncoming traffic or at intersections, the vehicles were artificially inserted into the picture. The special effects of the film come from the company Zoic Studios.

reception

“Rapidly staged and edited action film that uses its quite simply constructed plot as a framework for brilliant physical action that lives less from digital effects than from brilliant stunts. The genre-typical element of the chase focuses on the acrobatic handling of bicycles in interaction with the urban landscape and the traffic chaos in New York. Grounded by good actors and a skilful handling of the narrated time, the film offers fast-paced entertainment. "

“All possible means of transport have already been used for film chases, from taxis to school buses. In "Premium Rush" the bike is added, which is a good choice: Not only that cyclists are automatically "the good ones", at least in their self-perception; Noble bicycles have also almost replaced the car as a status symbol. And since Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in the saddle, the whole thing is very cool and casual, the fixie is also considered a hipster bike. [...] Fast cuts and a driving soundtrack also add to the tension - and the fact that a cyclist wearing only a helmet, T-shirt and shorts really risks something in a chase; Car chases seem bland on the other hand.
