The 1000 year old Priorlinde

Priory is the name of a local part of the independent city Hagen in the eastern Ruhr area .

Priorei is best known for the Priorlinde , a candelabra linden with an estimated age of 1000 years. It was placed under nature protection (ED 10) in 1947 . Their trunk circumference is 750 cm, their height was about 25 m, their crown diameter 30 m, of which only a "pitiful torso" is left.

The place name Priorei indicates a monastery that never existed there. The derivation of the name from Old High German indicates an ancient court and thing place that was ruled by a linden tree .

On January 1, 1970, the formerly independent community of Dahl, consisting of the districts of Dahl , Priorei and Rummenohl, was incorporated into the town of Breckerfeld in the Ennepe-Ruhr district . As early as January 1, 1975, the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to convert this area into the city of Hagen.

Until 1979 there was a stop in the village on the Hagen – Dieringhausen railway line .
