Newstime is a news program on the German private television broadcaster ProSieben .
Title of the program
- ProSieben Nachrichten (January 1, 1989 to December 5, 2004)
- Newstime (since December 6, 2004)
history
As a full program, ProSieben has been obliged to broadcast information programs since the start of broadcasting. Initially, the news was supposed to be called Tagesblick , but this was prevented by the ARD as it feared a risk of confusion with the Tagesschau . In 2001, a judgment followed in which the ARD was defeated, the term "daily picture" was negotiated, which the broadcaster is allowed to use according to the legal ruling. Nevertheless, ProSieben decided not to use the name.
One of the first presenters of ProSieben News belonged Jan Fromm , who led the mission from 1989 to 1996. The main newscast was broadcast at 8 p.m. and at times also at 7:55 p.m. there were also late editions of the news, the ProSieben images of the day . As part of a so-called "information offensive" in 1996, the then ARD journalist Wolfgang Klein was brought into the news editorial office as chief moderator and deputy editor-in-chief and Fromm was replaced. Klein presented the news from a newsroom in the Munich broadcasting center on working days at 7:30 p.m. , but left ProSieben after two years to become the ARD editor-in-chief of the political talk show Sabine Christiansen .
In 1999, the newsroom was expanded to co-produce the newly founded information channel N24 (today WeLT); the main news program was broadcast again at 19:55 and the weather block moderated again. When the station moved to Berlin, the newsrooms of ProSieben and SAT.1 were merged.
On December 6, 2004, the program was renamed; since then the ProSieben news has been operating under the name Newstime . With the new name, the show also got a new look and studio : the ProSieben Info Center . A shorter, slightly revised intro has been used since 2007/2008 and Newstime is broadcast at 6 p.m. In the event of extraordinary events, the format is also broadcast throughout the day.
On December 1, 2014, the on-air design was revised again and instead of red, the color blue now dominates.
Newstime special
Special programs are broadcast as Newstime Special . They used to be called ProSieben Kurznachrichten .
ProSieben late news
A late edition of the Newstime is broadcast Tuesday through Saturday. The time of broadcast varies greatly, usually between 2 and 4 a.m. The broadcast lasts about three minutes and consists of a brief summary of the most important topics of the day. In the program windows Austria and Switzerland, the late news is omitted without replacement.
Moderation
Newstime is moderated alternately by Michael Marx , Laura Dünnwald , Leslie Nachmann and Stephanie Puls . The weather will be moderated by Corinna Borau and, from March 2020, Anna Gröbel . The late news is presented by various moderators, some of them by WELT moderators. In 2013, an issue with Joko Winterscheidt was broadcast as co- presenter to promote participation in the 2013 federal election .

criticism
- Violation of the Youth Media Protection Act
An advertising block for the new mystery series " Fringe - Grenzfalls des FBI " , which was first broadcast on March 13, 2009 and disguised as a special edition of the news program, caused criticism . Moderator Marx reported on an inexplicable medical event in which a woman allegedly gave birth to a child who, within minutes, assumed the proportions of a full-grown man. A scene from a hospital marked as an amateur video was also shown. Since the advertising block was not marked as such, it could not be clearly recognized that it was a false report. Only the following teaser of the series could be regarded as a reference, but was not clearly related to the special report. This and another “special edition” in a similar style were shown several times. As a result, ProSieben was fined EUR 3,500 by the Commission for Youth Media Protection. This was justified by the fact that the trailers violated the Youth Media Protection Act, as they were likely to impair the development of children under the age of 12.
- Sensational reporting
On March 13, 2018, a report about the computer game Fortnite : Battle Royale was shown. The contribution by WeltN24 editor Paul Willmann presented the game as glorifying violence, it was a potential danger for young people. This led to a real shit storm from gamers. In one of the most-clicked critic videos on YouTube, moderator Laura Dünnwald and the editorial team were insulted in some cases, the corresponding video has since been deleted. In the Newstime contribution, a pedagogue from the Spielatgeber NRW initiative also had a brief excerpt. She later stated that what she said had been taken completely out of context. The media criticized the sensational and dramatic presentation of the report. ProSieben announced via Twitter that it had forwarded the criticism to the editorial team.
- Use of the term "entertainment"
There is also criticism in relation to image spots that were shown on ProSieben in October 2005. You bring the news program with the slogan "We love to entertain you" (English for "We love to entertain you") in connection.
Trivia
In the 2016 film The First Avenger: Civil War - which is partly set in Germany - the news is briefly shown twice. You can clearly see the logo and studio of the show. You can also see or hear the moderators Dünnwald and Marx.
