Extraction and presentation

Propachlor can be produced by reacting aniline with 2-chloropropane and then with chloroacetic acid chloride .

Propachlor was used as a herbicide . It was approved in the US in 1964, and in the 1990s it was still using over 1000 tons annually in the US. In the meantime, however, the annual application rate in the USA has decreased to zero.

Admission

Since it can be assumed that the active substance has a harmful effect on the groundwater, it was not included in Annex I of Directive 91/414 / EEC and all approvals for plant protection products containing this substance were revoked. In Switzerland, too, no pesticides containing this active ingredient are permitted.
