Protase Rugambwa

Protase Rugambwa (born May 31, 1960 in Bunena , Tanzania ) is a Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Protase Rugambwa attended the seminars in Katoke and Itaga . On Kibosho Senior Seminary Rugambwa studied philosophy and at St. Charles Lwanga Segerea Senior Seminary. Catholic theology . On September 2, 1990, in Dar es Salaam, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Rulenge through Pope John Paul II .

From 1990 to 1991 Protase Rugambwa was parish vicar in Mabira . Rugambwa taught at the Katoke Seminary from 1991 to 1994. He was also the representative of the Rulenge diocese for liturgy and chaplain of the hospital in Biharamulo . In 1994 Protase Rugambwa was sent to Rome for further studies . In 1998 he was at the Pontifical Lateran University in specialist pastoral theology doctorate . From 1998 to 1999 Rugambwa was responsible for vocational pastoral care in the Rulenge diocese and head of the pastoral department. From 2000 to 2002 he was vicar general of the Rulenge diocese. In 2002 Protase Rugambwa became official in the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

On January 18, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Kigoma . The Archbishop of Dar es Salaam , Polycarp Cardinal Pengo , donated him episcopal ordination on April 13 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Curia Archbishop Robert Sarah , and the Archbishop of Tabora , Paul Ruzoka .

On June 26, 2012 Benedict XVI appointed him. Associate Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President of the Pontifical Mission Societies . He also gave him the personal title of archbishop. On September 21, 2013, Pope Francis confirmed him permanently as Assistant Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. On November 9, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him secretary of this congregation.
