The Pyraustinae are a subfamily of the Crambidae within the Pyraloidea . There are currently around 1470 known species. About 160 species are found in Central Europe.
features
The Pyraustinae are identified as monophylum by some morphological features on the tympanic organs and the extremities.
Way of life
The caterpillars of the Central European species of the Pyraustinae often live in spine tubes and feed on various plants (including mentha , oregano , thyme , salvia ).
Systematics
The systematic scope of the subfamily Pyraustinae is not yet entirely certain due to the recent spin-off of the earlier Spilomelini tribe as a separate subfamily Spilomelinae. For some species the position in one or the other subfamily is not yet known. Currently there are about 230 genera with over 1,400 species known, in Europe over 100 species have been detected so far, in Central Europe there are around 20 genera:
