The Pyrenean lily ( Lilium pyrenaicum Gouan ) is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Candidum section .

description

The Pyrenean lily is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 40 to 120 centimeters. The onions are round and reach a diameter of about 7 cm, they are covered with white scales that darken pink in the air.

The stem is hard and straight. The narrow, lanceolate leaves are alternate and densely distributed around the stem.

Lilium pyrenaicum , fruits and seeds

This species blooms from May to June in a panicle inflorescence with one to twelve nodding flowers. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold, about 4 cm in diameter and have an unpleasant smell. The six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) are strongly bent back ( Turk's collar shape ). The basic color of the flowers is light yellow to greenish with black dots and dashes. There are six stamens . The anthers are about 10 mm in size, the pollen bright orange-red and the filaments green. The nectaries are dark. There are three carpels per flower .

The seeds of the Pyrenean lily germinate with a delay - hypogean .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Distribution and location

The plant is rare, it is endemic to the Pyrenees and thus occurs in France , Andorra and Spain .

The Pyrenean Lily needs moist, humus-rich, not wet soil.

Systematics

In addition to the nominate form Lilium pyrenaicum subsp. pyrenaicum exist:

  • Lilium pyrenaicum f. rubrum  : with red flowers.
  • Lilium pyrenaicum subsp. ponticum (K.Koch) VAMatthews : The classification is very controversial, it is also called Lilium ponticum K. Koch or Lilium carniolicum subsp. ponticum (K.Koch) PHDavis & DMHend. guided.
  • Lilium pyrenaicum subsp. carniolicum (Bernh. ex WDJKoch) VAMatthews was recognized as a separate species, the Carniolan lily ( Lilium carniolicum Bernh. ex WDJKoch ).

cultivation

The Pyrenean lily is rare in nature, but it is easy to grow in deep, loose, humus-rich soil. In Germany it occurs occasionally as a neophyte .
