Career

society

Lewan Qenia is a nephew of the former national player Giorgi Kiknadze . He was already considered a great talent in his youth and completed a training course at FC Barcelona as a 14-year-old . He played his first games in a top professional league from 2006 for his hometown club Lokomotive Tbilisi . In January 2008 he moved to the German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 , who initially used him as an A-youth in the U-19 Bundesliga . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season Qenia rose to the first team squad. Due to the regulations, however, he was not allowed to play in the Bundesliga before his 18th birthday. Since different regulations apply to international matches, he was able to play the UEFA Cup home game against APOEL Nicosia on October 2, 2008 , although he had not yet reached the age of majority. In the spring of 2009, injuries threw him back several times, so that he only played a single Bundesliga appearance during the season: in the game against Karlsruher SC he was substituted on on April 11, 2009 shortly before the end. In the following season 2009/10 Qenia played under the new coach Felix Magath in the top line-up of the Bundesliga club, before the operation threw him back in November 2009 after an ankle injury. As a result, he was no longer used throughout the 2010/11 season and the first half of the 2011/12 season. It wasn't until January 27, 2012 that Qenia returned to the training ground after two years and three months.

When his contract expired on June 30, 2012, Qenia left FC Schalke 04 .

A move to the Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg was originally planned, for which he also played a friendly match in July 2012. However, Qenia saw no chances in the game system of the local coach Luciano Spalletti and signed a contract for two and a half years with Karpaty Lviv on August 14 .

On June 29, 2013, he returned to Fortuna Düsseldorf with a contract until June 30, 2015 . His contract was terminated on July 1, 2014. Qenia had been used eleven times with the Fortunes in the second division. In October 2014 he moved to Slavia Prague . In January 2017, his former Lokomotive Tbilisi association announced the renewed commitment. Here he only played one game in just under two years due to various injuries.

For the 2018/19 season, Kenya then joined the Luxembourg champions F91 Dudelange in the BGL Ligue . In his first competitive game, he was able to win the league cup immediately . In the 2-0 win against RFC Union Luxemburg , he was substituted on in the 75th minute. At the end of the season, Qenia also won the championship and the cup.

But in July 2019 Kenya moved back to Georgia and joined FC Saburtalo Tbilisi .

National team

After appearances in the Georgian U-17 and U-19 selections, Qenia played for the U-21 national team in June and August 2007. At the age of 16, he played for the Georgian national team for the first time . He made his debut on September 8, 2007 in the qualifier for the 2008 European Championship against Ukraine . With his substitution in the 62nd minute, he became the youngest international debutant in his country. Five days later, he was on the starting line-up of the Georgian team for the first time in a friendly in Azerbaijan . “He was the best U-17 and U-19 player, and it was the same in the U-21. So we decided that he should get a chance in the senior team. He met our expectations, ”said Georgia's national coach Klaus Toppmöller after Qenia's first two appearances. The young playmaker played his first match over 90 minutes on November 21, 2007 against Lithuania , the last of his four appearances in the European Championship qualification. He scored the first goal for the Georgian selection in a friendly against Estonia in May 2008.
