Régine Hunziker-Rodewald

Régine Hunziker-Rodewald (born November 3, 1953 in Berlin ) is a Protestant theologian and professor at the Faculté de Théologie Protestante at the University of Strasbourg . Hunziker-Rodewald has Swiss and German citizenship. Her main research interests are in the fields of archeology , the Old Testament , the history of Israel and the history of the Middle East .

Life

From 1987 to 1995 Hunziker-Rodewald studied theology at the theological faculty of the University of Bern . In 1993 she received the faculty award for her master's thesis . The subject of the master's thesis was Asherah in the Old Testament - competition for the only God? A biblical inquiry. Taking into account new extra-biblical text finds in Palestine . From 1995 to 2005, Hunziker-Rodewald worked as a research assistant, and from 2004 as a lecturer, at the theological faculty of the University of Bern. During this time she did her doctorate in 2001 with a thesis on the subject of shepherd and flock. An aspect of the Old Testament understanding of God . In 2005 she completed her habilitation with a thesis on King Saul and the Spirits. On the development of the picture of the Saul in the Bible and in the history of its reception and in 2006 obtained the license to teach the Old Testament. From 2006 to 2008 she was a lecturer at the Protestant theological faculty of the University of Bern. From 2008 to 2015 she worked as a professor of the Old Testament, History of Israel and History of the Middle East at the University of Strasbourg. Since 2016 she has been a full professor (Professeur des universités 1re classe).

Hunziker-Rodewald is proficient in the modern languages German , English and French . She also has knowledge of ancient Greek , Latin , Aramaic , Hebrew , Ugaritic , Phoenician-Punic and Transjordan languages.

Research projects (selection)

Together with Astrid Nunn , Hunziker-Rodewald worked on the Les terres cuites féminines de l'époque du Fer II (1,000 - env. 600 av. JC) à l'est du Jourdain (iconism and aniconism in ancient oriental cult) and in the area of ​​the Levant planning an excavation project in the lower town of Tall Zira'a in the ancient province of Gilead ( Northern Jordan , Iron Age and Achaemenid Period ).

In the Franco-German-Turkish project Die Siloah-Insschrift 1880-1891 , Hunziker-Rodewald works together with A. Ruwe, Greifswald (Germany), F. Sakal, Doha (Qatar) and Edhem Eldem , Istanbul (Turkey). The research group documents the remains of the inscription and the stages of its decoding.
